Let me explain what I mean. A couple of months ago I purchased a new keyboard, which itself is very nice by all means, BUT ... why have fancy buttons and why can you only change them using some software that only runs on Windows?
So the keyboard in question is the Logitech K290
Now, on the box it said US/International Keyboard, but unfortunately the content was a UK Keyboard... my mistake.
Now after using it I noticed that the Function buttons (F1 thru F12) did not work as I was used to. For example to refresh a website, you'd normally press <F5>, now you have to press the <FN> + <F5>
More over, on this keyboard the <FN> button is on the right side of the <Space-Bar>.
WHO IN HIS RIGHT MIGHT PUTS IT THERE?????
How f%$#ing annoying is that. Looking at some forums/websites it seems that this behavior could be changed, when installing some Logitech software.
Now you probably wonder, why the drama, it is no biggy ... Let me tell you:
I do not use Windows. I use Linux and ofter I use the Function Keys. Normally I'd use <Cntrl>+<Alt>+<F1 thru F7> to change terminal screens
Try that with this keyboard!!!! and NO ... <Alt Gr> is not the same as <Alt>
Next Keyboard Dell KM714
So with my lessons learned on the previous keyboard, I went on a quest to find another keyboad for my second computer. Let me tell you ... not an easy task as most keyboards have this shitty function keys as the Logitech K290, or are super expensive or, or, or.
Requirements:
* Function buttons are function buttons
* In case of a <FN> button it should be on the left of the <Space-Bar>
* Num-pad
* US/International Keyboard
* Not expensive
* Prefer USB cable over wireless/bluetooth
So eventually the Dell KM714 caught my eye (which essentially is a Logitech Keyboard/Mouse, but nowhere to be found on their website)
It checked all my requirements, and the fact that it is wireless is okay given the fact I might never find what I am looking for.
So, you say that I should be jumping air-holes of joy now that I have said keyboard ... I am happy and I consider it better then the K290, BUT I would not consider buying this keyboard again should I be in need of another keyboard.
Why you ask, since it checked all the tick-boxes on my list of requirements? Because I cannot use the Num- Pad
But it is there, you say, on the rights ... numbers 0 thru 9
Yes it is .... and now look for the NumLock button ... I give you 10000000000000000000000 when you find it!!
Again, this is controlled by installing some software, which only works for Windows and by default it apparently it turned off. WHO COMES UP WITH THIS SHIT??????
Who would want to install software to be able to use a F#$%ING keyboard?????
Oh, but it has a CD eject button!!!! You see that blue triangle in the top row on the right??
WTF I say ... WTF!!!!!
