Me printer/scanner/copy-maker is broken :-(

Booh!!!!!
I have this Canon MF6540PL B/W laser printer/scanner/copier all-in-one machine ... and now it is broken ;-(
Display shows "download standby" and when I hook it up to my computer, it does not recognize the printer. I also cannot scan and copy anymore
Booh!!!!!

Question now: Is it worth repairing or is it better to buy a new device?

Internet says, that one must flash the ROM, which can only be done by an authorized Canon Repair man, but there could be more broken.

If more is broken, will spare part be available for this device?

Anybody any tips on how to fix it me-self, or any new device I should buy?
